To satisfy City of Houston code and insurance requirements, no skates, roller blades, bikes or animals are permitted on the race course.

The Start/Finish line is under the Wortham Theatre arch
close to the Downtown Aquarium, 550 Prairie Street, Houston, TX

The course is on flat, concrete, city streets, USAT&F sanctioned and certified road race, TX08027ETM. To satisfy City of Houston code and insurance requirements, no skates, roller blades, bikes or animals are permitted on the race course.

TEAMS
Participation by teams, either walking (3K) or running (5K) is encouraged. There are two types of team competition: 
(a) the largest team, and 
(b) the fastest team using an age-gender scoring system
.

See the Team Scoring Rules. Teams are automatically scored using both types of scoring.


 

Runner packets for an entire team may qualify to be picked up by the team captain, as follows: 
a. Runners must register online, 
b. The team must have 15 or more registered runners,
c. Team captain must call or email the event director to schedule a day & time for pick-up. This communication must be acknowledged by the event director. Contact information: info@dadsday5k.org

d. All of the above must happen before Wednesday, May 31st at noon (CDT)

Team Captains

Team Rules & Scoring

1. Scoring by Team Size

  • Open to teams in the 3K and 5K, with no limit to the number of participants.
  • Ties will be broken by the highest number of 5K participants, then 3K participants on a team.
  • Awards will be given to the top three teams with the greatest number of participants.
  • Awards will be mailed to the Team Captain.
  • Individual categories and team categories are scored and awarded separately

2. Scoring of the fastest team using an age-gender system

  • Unlimited number of co-ed runners, each running 5K, with the summed score (time) of the five best finishers in any combination of age groups/gender determining place. For example, the five best individual finish times would be used to calculate the team score as follows:

  • Ties will be broken in the following manner:
    * Lowest cumulative team time, or
    * If a tie still exists, the best individual time in the race among the scoring team members
  • Teams with less than five runners will have 1,000 points added for each vacant spot
  • Awards will be given to the top three finishing teams
  • Awards will be mailed to the Team Captain.
  • Individual categories and team categories are scored and awarded separately

  3. Friday, June 15th, 11 am to 6 pm at New Balance, 1800 Post Oak Blvd, #6140, 77056 (Galleria)
  4. Race Day-Saturday, June 16th, 6:30 – 7:30 am, under the Wortham Theatre arch, 550 Prairie, Houston, 77002.

Shirt size is not guaranteed at packet pickup on race day. For preferred shirt size, consider packet pickup on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
No Race Day Registrations.
Packets Include: Runner t-shirt, race bib, four safety pins, race instruction sheet, and sometimes vendor discount coupons.

Parking
Parking space is abundant on city streets and nearby lots, but it is not FREE. Click here for downtown Houston parking map.

Mailed Runner Packets
Runners can choose to have their packets delivered by U.S. mail for a $6 postage fee. Also, registration must be completed online and by Wednesday, May 31st 2017 at 12 noon (CDT). Any mailout registrations received after that deadline will not be mailed and the mailing fee is not refundable.  Mailout registrations received after the deadline must be obtained at one the packet pickup events detailed in a paragraph above … titled, “Packet Pickup”.

Refund Policy
Entry fee is non-refundable.

Medical Aid
Emergency medical aid will be available. Remember to drink plenty of fluids before and during the race. Water stations will be along the course. We take reasonable precautions in planning a safe event. Participation is at your own risk.

Post Race Activities
It’s all about Families and Fun !!
Lots of fun, food and music – along with the presentation of awards and door prize drawings. Refreshments are served on Fish Plaza on the Texas Street side of the Wortham Theater.

Awards
5K Timed Run: (electronic timing by B-tag)
Trophies to the following winners:
Top male and female overall
1st place male and female Master (40-54)
1st place male and female Senior (55+)
Top 3 prostate cancer survivors

Commemorative Medals to the following male and female winners:
1st, 2nd & 3rd places in each age group: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29,
30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 and over.
No duplicate awards given.

Teams: Awards will be given to the top three largest teams and top three fastest teams. Awards will be mailed to the team captains.

Kids 1K: All kids (12 and under) who finish will WIN a commemorative medal. Trophies for the top 3 kids. Plus all kids will receive a super hero cape instead of a t-shirt!

T-Shirts:
Each runner in the 5K and 3K will receive a technical, gender specific t-shirt. Shirt size is not guaranteed at packet pickup on race day. For preferred shirt size, consider earlier packet pickup.

Extra T-Shirts:
If extra t-shirts are available, they may be obtained on race day for a donation of $10 each. Some previous year’s t-shirts are available; they may be obtained on race day for a donation of $5 each.
